BOYY soldiers...

This autumn/winter 2010 Jesse Dorsey and Wannasiri Kongman venture into history books to find the heroes, warriors and soldiers who have contributed in shaping the modern world, as the inspiration for their 11 piece accessories collection. Be it a Mongolian warrior king, French medieval knights; English foot soldiers, to the American fighter pilot.  It is not the battle which inspired BOYY but the characters that were ever present that define BOYY soldiers FW10, their stories, the essence of a certain hero of a certain time, his environment, and capturing unique aesthetics particular to them.

Keeping in line with past BOYY collections, each design is inspired and named after a certain male persona. In this collection, this is seen in the protective chainmail of “Yves”, sparkling and iridescent at the same time protective of its wearer. Or the shearling of “Altan”, the warm sheepskin that kept him warm as he waged against the Chinese. “Mickey”, the fighter pilot's uniform with his adjustable strap as he zooms in on enemy with his satchel to his side.... Or even down to Oscar’s functional backpack, at once a keepal and a 2-strap pack.

The color palette is one, which is paradoxically gritty and at the same time glamorous capturing the battle and the ceremonious return of a hero. The cold slate like steel and the natural earth, colours that define the reality of the time juxtaposed with the finest and softest Italian leathers textures and the most elaborate and carefully selected skins. The pair couple stark reality well with fantasy and do not for an instant forget that a BOYY bag is to be used, to be worn and thus no detail or ornament on the designs are superfluous they add to the way which a bag functions and transforms to suit all occasions.

BOYY SOLDIERS FW10 collection captures a utilitarian ideal which is resilient as it is enduring, choosing to seek a modern classic which combines utility with beauty.
